Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could enable the party enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect learning which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
